Around a meal or in the kitchen is where we find fellowship and make new friends. We offer food to welcome strangers, to share cultural traditions and to express affection and appreciation for loved ones. The beauty and creativity and hard work I see in the places where food is prepared or grown is incredibly compelling to me.
I am a storyteller, with pictures. I look beyond straightforward representation to make photographs that are interesting and beautiful – and that stimulate the senses. My favorite stories are food stories.
I was trained as a photojournalist (I have a master’s degree from the University of Missouri), and I worked as a staff photographer at the Star Tribune in Minneapolis, MN and Minnesota Public Radio News. I love meeting new people, and I know how to put them at ease in front of the camera and how to be in the right place at the right time to capture meaningful moments. Most recently, I attended several video workshops to add to my storytelling skill set.
When I am not making pictures, I enjoy morning runs around the Minneapolis lakes; weekend trips to the farmers market; and spending time with my husband Ken and our sweet pug Sophie. I love to cook, garden and travel. And although I love the snow, I dream of living along the ocean in Hawaii.
